The typical bottle of Ensure® has far too much sugar to be considered 'healthy'.
Some of these include Sugar, Corn Syrup, and Maltodextrin.
This will only be even more detrimental to their health.
Additionally the Canola, Corn and Soy ingredients in Ensure are not listed as non-GMO, so they are most likely from Genetically Modified organisms.

Homemade Ensure® Substitute Recipe:
On this page are some recipe ideas for a homemade nutrition shake similar to Ensure.
A tasty vitamin and protein-packed drink can be helpful for the elderly, or as extra nutritional insurance any time.
The basic recipe is lactose-free, soy-free, gluten-free, and sugar-free. The ingredients are very simple, but can be added to for various needs:
- Chocolate Unsweetened Almond Milk
- Liquid Iron & Herbs with B-vitamins & C
- Stevia Extract Powder
- (Optional - small splash of Organic cream or Half n' Half - or Vanilla Almond Milk.)
(Does NOT require a blender!)
Of course, adding the Cream or Half & Half doesn't make it lactose-free, but it does add a lot of body and creaminess to the drink.
This drink has that nutritious, 'vitamin-y' taste of a nutritional drink such as Ensure, but without all the unhealthy additives and sugar.
(The Almond Milk already includes Vitamins A, D & E as well as Calcium. The Liquid Vitamin has Iron, and Vitamins B & C.)
Some Possible Add-Ins Include:
- Powdered Multi-Probiotic
- Non-Denatured Whey Protein
- Bioactive Colostrum Powder
- Raw Vegan Protein Powder
Another variation, besides the Chocolate flavor, is Vanilla with a liquid vitamin that has an Orange flavor - making it taste like a Creamsicle!
This recipe can also be made with orange Floradix Kinder Love Children's Multivitamin Supplement, for children 4 years of age and over.
