'Life' -
Some have wondered what I was up to before having this website. Below is a short synopsis of different life activities. Of course, on something like this you tend to leave out all the horrifyingly 'epic fails' of your life.
So, just the 'good' stuff - 'Scattered' adventures and experiences more than just one focused 'career'. But, that may help to explain this website which has information on lots of different subjects and interests. - Enjoy!

The article below is excerpted from a letter sent sometime back to my parents. Perhaps it's the fate of an oldest child to be an over-achiever, feeling as though it will 'never be enough' and continually trying to prove yourself.
Sad, really - but too true. :) A lot of the wording style has been changed to reflect relating to a reader that is previously unfamiliar. And, some other details have also been added, along w/a little humor...
(How else would you survive?) ☻
Hello!
Enclosed you will find copies of some various things I found while 'cleaning out' that I thought you might enjoy looking at. I ended up just putting them in chronological order. This compilation skips a lot of events, but these are just some that I didn't think you'd ever had a chance to see.
The first is my 'typing proficiency' certificate from High School - LOL. :) This came in handy as I've used typing in many ways for school and for work - and now even for the computer. (See HERE for more 'earlier' stuff.)
Second is a grant offer from my college that was offered to full-time students with a high GPA. I didn't take the offer, however, due to scheduling conflicts and lack of time to pursue any other projects (esp. w/ 2 majors!).
You may also know that I took Private Voice classes from Betty Hanken at the University Music Dept. She had been the understudy of Opera singer Rosa Ponselle. (I still really enjoy singing.)
This helped greatly in developing a more 'nasal' quality to my voice... :) Just joking! But she did very much like to emphasize the use of the 'mask' which included a focus on resonating off the interior nasal bones!
Third is an acceptance letter that I remember telling you about from John Hopkins University in their Master of Administrative Science, Managerial Option.

This was a program that the personnel manager had told me about at the store where I worked. She had taken this program and thought I might enjoy it as well. I subsequently applied and was accepted.
I had fortunately already taken the GRE exam by then also, so didn't have to go through that again. (I had passed the Math portion somehow, even though that is so not my forté.)
I ended up not going, and moved to Hawaii instead where I worked full-time at the front desk of a beachfront hotel in Waikiki.
Included are a couple examples of some 'commendations' I received from happy guests who had stayed at the hotel.

When I met my husband, we started working in music. We were married, and down the road had our first cute little baby boy and moved to a different side of the island with a slower pace.
We started doing worship with our church at that time. The next paper is a certificate from a workshop that my husband held for those on the worship team at our church.
Around the same time, I had also completed a class in Photography at Hawaii Loa College. At that time, it was mainly so I could take some better pictures of our new growing family.

With our fun little baby boy - I had to learn how to take 'action shots'! Now, photography has now become a lifetime hobby as well, and I still really enjoy taking pictures.
The next year, my husband and I began attending Chaminade Univ. to further our training in Interior Design. We were awarded a small academic scholarship called 'Symbols of Celebration that went toward tuition.
We were both inducted into Delta Epsilon Sigma while we were there. This is a National Scholastic Honor Society. The very best part of that was an induction ceremony at a beautiful waterfront hotel in Waikiki!
Later on, I did some studies at Redemption College in Honolulu. This is a college that was started by the 'headmaster' at the school our son was attending at that time for Kindergarten.
Some of the classes that I took there were: Developing the Lay Counselor, and Understanding the Contemporary Priesthood of the Book of Leviticus, Part I and II.
I kept the paperwork for all of these classes as I had really enjoyed them. The class on Leviticus was held at the school downtown. It was the first time that the book of Leviticus had ever 'come alive' for me.
It became so much more than just a 'dry' recitation of Levitical Priesthood Laws when the deeper meaning was exposited by a great teacher (who was also a really great preacher!)
The Pastor himself had taught those two classes (Leviticus Pt. I & II). Another of the classes I took from there was really great because I could do it at home via a video series and targeted writing assignments.
It was a good thing I wasn't at the campus then, too - This was right during the time that a rogue elephant escaped from a circus performance that was in town at the Blaisdell Center.
★"˜¨¯¨˜"ª ¤ (¯`*•.¸ (¯`*•... Elephant on the Run! ...•*´¯) ¸.•*´¯) ¤ ª"˜¨¯¨˜"★
The elephant came rampaging right down the street where the school was located. The Pastor had seen it happen and prayed that the elephant would be able to be stopped.
Thankfully it was, but before then it had killed one of its handlers while still under the 'big top' at Blaisdell just before its escape. Very sad, for elephant and trainer.
The next page is a little plug for our 'little' boy. He was so cute when he was little (and still is!). A friend had recommended a modeling agency in town for him.
He was accepted (of course!), but we never pursued it any further. He was too much of a 'boy' to be very interested in something like that, and I figured it was just as well.
During those years, before moving to FL, I also took Basic Hula, Ballet and Jazz Classes at Mavis Tracy School of Dance, and Jazzercise Aerobics to 'keep in shape' (after babies, etc.!).
The next page is a small 'snapshot' of the graduates of Trinity College of Natural Health from Hawaii. There are many more - in the hundreds just in the state of Florida alone.
I studied while living both in Hawaii and Florida. You can see my name listed with the degrees that I earned from Trinity. These include the CNC, MH and ND degrees.
Many graduates of Trinity are very well-known names in the field of Natural Health. Some are active as speakers or authors, others have their own websites, consultation clinics or line of natural health supplements.
See the brochure HERE on Naturopathy and what it entails. There is also a title page from my dissertation for the ND program (I will be uploading a copy of the full dissertation sometime soon).
This paper has some pretty neat info as it is on the subject of Longevity. This subject interests me more and more as time goes on... :) I had also written an article for Tasty and Meatless around that time entitled: "Interpreting a Meatless Menu."
I previously had a website for a little while called 'Healthy Blessings'. My oldest son had done the design of the title page and header. I thought it was so pretty with the pink and green - I guess he already had an eye for color and design even then!
I'm so glad that he decided on a career in Interior Design and Architecture - especially since that includes being able to work with his Dad, as well as his wife, brother, and sister-in-law, at Design Trends Construction.
While in Florida, my husband and I also attended a cooking class given by Harriet McNear of Harriet's Kitchen. She was a whole-foods chef who ran a cooking school and held cooking classes and workshops in her lovely Winter Park home.
I feel fortunate that we got to meet her, especially as she passed away not too long afterward. While in FL, we all also took Tae Kwon Do classes. My younger son and I both became Yellow Belts!
But, my husband and our oldest son were able to work their way up to Black Belt. They participated in several regional matches as well as performing at Splendid China. Those classes were great family exercise back then - but I'm not sure I'd want to do that now!
When we first returned to Hawaii, I was invited by a friend to attend a weekend conference that was being given by a Christian nutritionist named Maureen Kennedy Salaman, known as The First Lady of Nutrition,
She was a well-known author and speaker, as well as having a TV show on health and nutrition. It was held at the Hawaii Convention Center (the one that looks like a big glass sailboat.) She has also now passed, in 2006.
As you may know, my sister and I also attended a weekend workshop at the Hilton Hawaiian Village hotel given by Nature's Sunshine and their Tree of Light Institute. That was fun - we basically sat in the back and 'acted up'.
There are various other workshops, conferences and seminars that I have attended. One of these is a Teacher Training Certification from Christian Light Education.
I used their 'LightUnit' method developed for Mennonite Schools, and for Homeschool, with my younger son for part of his learning. I have contacted them for a replacement certificatnd hope to be receiving it soon.
Lastly is just a certificate for a workshop class that was sponsored by Hope Chapel Kaneohe, which we were attending at the time. The workshop was held at Windward Community College.

It's such a beautiful campus right up against the Koolau Mountains. The class was entitled, 'Fearfully Yet Faithfully Sharing Your Faith'. It was a great class - and with a really fun 'tongue twister' title!
Well, I guess I have to think of what my next adventure will be. I have been in contact with a school in Florida that will allow me to get their 'Thesis Only' Ph.D. due to a 'varied' educational background.
It's a Chrtistian College and Seminary that has online and distance degree options, which will be great for me. Also, I feel I have a connection with Florida having lived there for several years.
I can work on the thesis from 'anywhere' - so it's not something that would be too interrupted if we were to move somewhere else. Well, there's probably lots more to say, but this letter is already long enough, so I'll stop for now.
