Festivities -
These pages are meant to be a place to come and find a short synopsis on each 'festivity', with some interesting background, along with a way to find great items to celebrate the holidays.
However, in researching this, I kept running into so much information on the deeply Pagan roots of nearly all of the holidays that we celebrate today, that I decided to expand on that information.
While one may still choose to recognize their family holiday celebrations and traditions, we can at least also hopefully choose to do so in a much more benign and civil way than in the past.
Many holidays were merely based on 'luck' and superstition, as well as time-honored cultural tradition. But others were often commemorated in much darker ways.
One place in particular that I found a lot of interesting information was a game site for an imaginary land - It may be 'just' a game; but games, as all stories, contain a morsel of universal truth in them.
As an opening to the information on different festivities, a character playing a Jester - or 'Fool' - is introduced.
In reading his description, I couldn't help thinking of another very real character who lurks in a similar way in the shadows of our own world.
Revelation 12:9 "The Devil deceiveth the whole world..."
Psalm 14:1 "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."
(Sounds like the frivilous 'party world' of endless festivity and denial that we have now...)

The Jester is Master of the Feast. There is little about ceremonial traditions that he has not documented and keeps securely in his memory. He is anxious to divulge this knowledge that he has garnered through the years and stands ready to direct you onward.
Perhaps you are searching for the true identity of the jovial chap known as Saint Nicholas...or maybe you are seeking the origin of the celebrations of Halloween. The Jester is brimming with revelations and information.
The Hall of Festivities is his realm and he lords over his domain - a place of partial illumination between the perfect shadow on all sides and the full light. However, beyond these walls, the Jester has other work and his time is not always his own.
He is obliged to answer the summons of his rulers when they call upon him. After all, he is first and foremost the Monarch's Fool. But,when his duties are done, the Jester returns back to the Hall of Festivities where he can do his 'best' work.
"What would you like to know?," he asks. He regards you quizzically, eager to divulge the lore of ceremonial custom. But beware, he is a cunning character.
Can you truly be sure that the knowledge he holds is fact or simply a fancy of his own imagination - or worse? It is doubtful that the Jester will ever tell.

Is this Jester, this Fool - The Lord of Misrule - an honest and trustworthy character? Not at all. Will he mislead you if he can? Yes indeed!
However, he is more than happy to 'divulge' the knowledge that will lead you onward into a life of endless frivolity where he does his 'best' (or worst) work.
And, moreover, this 'Jester' is more than happy to 'illuminate' you to his dark ways...
His work is best done in the constant revelry, in the states of drunkenness, and in the total distraction from what really matters in this life.
