NATURAL HEALING OF 'TRICH':  CAUSES & TREATMENT


Trichotillomania, (also known as trichotillosis or hair pulling disorder) is the compulsive urge to pull out one's own hair leading to noticeable hair loss, leading to distress, and social or functional impairment.

Trichotillomaniac may be present in infants, but the peak age of onset is 9 to 13. It may be triggered by depression, stress, or anxiety.  This timeline makes sense as between 4th-8th grade children are given much more reading.

The lifetime prevalence is estimated to be between 0.6% (overall) and may be as high as 1.5% (in males) to 3.4% (in females). Common areas for hair to be pulled out are the scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, legs, arms, and hands, etc.

'Trich' has many of the same causes - and potential remedies - as does Glaucoma.  One of the main reasons for this condition, other than emotional stress, is physical stress to the eyes.  This is especially true of any stressors that tend to dry out the eyes and make them feel itchy and strained.

This then often leads to the tendency to rub the eyes, and pull at the eyelashes
for some relief of these uncomfortable sensations.  It is good to remember that in the long run, this will backfire with more itching and discomfort. 

Activities that can lead to this type of Eye Strain are those that involve any type of close-up work.  This would include too much reading, TV watching, computer, etc.  Also long-distance focus such as driving for long periods.
