MCS: The Enemies - 'Cells & Smells'
(See Our New MCS Awareness Program HERE - Coming Soon!!)
My Own Story With MCS:
I have had MCS, or 'Multiple Chemical Sensitivities', for a number of years now. For me, as with many, there was a 'trigger' that seems to have started it.
In my case, it was a 'perfect storm' of several things in a short period of time. Before this, I was the 'normal' person using all of the typical 'conventional' products:
(Fragrance, hair-spray, nail-polish, laundry soap, dryer sheets, chemical household cleaners, etc.)
After developing MCS, I could no longer tolerate any of the above, including also cigarette smoke, car exhaust, paint, new carpet, plastics, and chemicals.
This all started when our home was 'tented' for termites with a pesticide chemical (sulfuryl-fluoride) which lingered much longer than advertised.
In addition to this, we had just started to use Antibacterial soap in our home containing Triclosan, which is also a type of anti-microbial 'pesticide'.
After this, the touch of any new clothing or material became intolerable due to their 'finishing' chemicals.
I also worked in an office at that time where they were in the process of remodeling with new carpet, paint and furnishings.
The final 'blow' was receiving a Tetanus booster at this time, which of course puts 'adjuvant' chemicals straight into your bloodstream.
Since then, I have found that the best solution for me has been the avoidance of toxic synthetic chemicals whenever possible.
This means that your home becomes your 'haven'. I've done my best to find non-toxic, fragrance-free natural products that won't add to the 'burden'.
The immune system needs time to detox from all the chemicals it has been exposed to so it can strengthen again.
In my own experience, this has resulted in being able to go places for short periods of time where there are all the 'usual' toxins.
This includes exposure to other people's perfume and cologne, as well as other indoor environmental pollutants.
Afterward, I feel the need to 'detox' by washing all clothing, shampooing hair, and scrubbing the skin with good soap in the shower.
I do not yet see, either in my own experience, or in the research currently available, the possibility for a full 'cure' from MCS.
However, I have recently seen where there are several protocols, such as the use of Molybdenum, that may hold some hope.
This is something I will have to look into further before giving it any kind of recommendation (I favor Good Nutrition).
What Is It Like to Have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities?
Having MCS can result in many different manifestations. For me, it means often having almost nowhere that I can go, and nowhere that I can work.
It also means that you have to wash every new item of clothing - and any new linens - multiple times before you can even use it.
This is due to the residue of 'finishing chemicals' present in most fabrics - even the ones that say they are 'organic'.
That being said, there are several companies that produce good quality organic items. These still need to be washed, but it takes a lot less time.
Before all that sounds like a 'pity party' to some, I actually now consider having MCS a 'blessing' in many ways.
It's like having a built-in 'early warning detector' for any harmful pollutants and toxins in your personal surroundings.
These toxins aren't good for anyone - those with Chemical Sensitivity can just tell ahead of time that they're not.
Those with MCS are like the 'advanced guard' who will be able to help out others who will inevitably be developing this same type of condition.
We have fortunately already done the 'research' to help with what products can be used that won't further burden their sensitivities.
Having MCS has also opened up a whole new world for me of wonderful products that I probably never would have 'discovered' if I hadn't developed this condition.
Even if I were to stop being sensitive to conventional chemical products, I would still use - and prefer - the natural ones by far!
It has actually been a lot of fun to research and try out different natural brands to see which ones might work for me.

What Is Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS)?
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity refers to a moderate to severe sensitivity or allergy-like reaction to many different kinds of pollutants including solvents, VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds), perfumes, petro-chemicals, smoke, smog, and any type or source of toxic "chemicals" in general.
If you have MCS, you can usually pinpoint when - and why - you developed the condition. Perhaps 'they' would rather not say that the "mechanism of causation" is this modern world with its myriad of chemical toxins and contaminants.
EHS - Electro-Hypersensitivity
Many with MCS also have Electro-Hypersensitivity. You may develop a headache and/or nausea around electronic devices such as cell phones, TV, microwave ovens, high-power lines, etc.
If you have this in addition to MCS (as I also do) you have officially become 'allergic' to the modern world!
