Fitness - Jazz Dance Exercise Basic Movements:
- Jazz Square-Jazz Stretch-Kick Ball Change-Plié-Grapevine-Chasse -
* Jazz Square -
(You can do a square the other way too by just reversing "left" and "right".)
* Jazz Stretch -
* Kick Ball Change -
* Jazz Plié -
* Grapevine -
* Chasse -

* Jazz Square -
- 1. Step forward with your left foot.
- 2. Cross your right foot over (in front of) your left.
- 3. Step back with your left foot to a "natural" position, as you would when standing normally.
- 4. Step back with your right foot to a natural position, and now you should be standing completely normally.
(You can do a square the other way too by just reversing "left" and "right".)
* Jazz Stretch -
- Right arm up, fingers splayed; Right hip down, Right knee bent.
- Switch to Left side.
* Kick Ball Change -
- Kick one foot forward.
- Then step back (on ball) with same foot.
- Opposing leg lifts at same time as stepping back with other foot.
- Then step front again with opposing leg.
- Repeat. Reverse to other side.
* Jazz Plié -
- Legs shoulder width apart.
- Feet pointing outward (turnout).
- Bend both knees slightly up and down.
- May also move side-to-side in same up-&-down motion, bringing feet together and apart again.
* Grapevine -
- Step out to side with left foot.
- Cross back with right.
- Out again with left.
- Then together.
- Repeat to the other side.
* Chasse -
- Left foot out to side.
- Drag right foot to follow, 'chasing' left.
- Bring feet together again.
- Repeat. Reverse to other side.
