It sat on a hill above the town where our grand-parents lived, but the house is now no longer there.
We figured that for sure it must be 'haunted'. With its 'undulating' triple balcony, this house seemed the perfect setting for a Gothic horror novel.
In this photo, the stark look of the black and white film, the dilapidated condition of the house, and the bare branches of the trees, dark against the sky, certainly add to the eerie feeling.
This house was the subject for several drawings that we made as young children. It was certainly a house to spark the imagination - and curiosity.
I have no idea who may have lived in this house in the past, or if indeed it was actually ever 'haunted'...
But, to me, it will always be the quintessential 'Haunted House on the Hill'.
