HIP-HOP HIGH FASHION AT THE SUPERBOWL
(You can see more about the background of this jacket HERE.)
For this post, I'll just stick to style for now. This jacket is actually a collaboration from the work of several designers.
The sleeves are emblazoned with the logo: Saint Youth, a 'hip-hop' clothing company based in Istanbul. (St. Gabriel Possenti is the 'patron saint of youth'.)
The patch of a deranged face is a design by Takashi Murakami, an artist from Japan. This design, called Melted Utopia Dream was originally for a pendant made for rap musician Travis Scott (who was the entertainer during the AstroWorld tragedy).
The Melted Utopia Dream chains were in turn a design collaboration between Murakami and jewelry designer Elliot Eliantte, as well as Scott's Cactus Jack record label and clothing, shoes & jewelry line that may have supplied the carved beads used in the pendant.
The Damar Hamlin jacket itself also has a connection to the Saint Michael (Mxxxxxx) clothing company in addition to Kanye West's fashion line. The original jacket retailed for a little over $3,000.00.
Urban Hip-hop fashion is big business with highly priced jewelry, shoes and clothing. Damar is also seen at the super bowl wearing a pair of white designer sunglasses and fashionably ripped and pieced together patched denim blue jeans.
Hamlin's necklace appears to be a silver dog tag style pendant with an enameled red heart on a ball chain. There is writing on it, but it's hard to make out what it says. In another photo with this same outfit, Damar's necklace appears to be more of an oval saint medal.
Perhaps it is the one of St. Gabriel Possenti, patron saint of youth, 'Saint Youth'. He is also wearing a SuperBowl LVII football lanyard with ID badge and a plain white t-shirt as well as white leather tennis shoes.
